Welcome to the FamilyTHINK Biblical Character Study page.
Each month, we focus on one person from scripture while continuing our daily Proverbs reading based on the calendar date. The purpose of this study is to help build wisdom, reflection, consistency, and personal growth through scripture over time.
As we study each character, we begin comparing and contrasting leadership, discipline, decision making, growth, consequences, and life patterns found throughout scripture and our own lives. We also explore the people connected to that individual, including parents, children, mentors, successors, and the long-term impact of their decisions and leadership over time.
FamilyTHINK Biblical Character Studies are designed to go beyond simply reading about one person from scripture. Similar to the LegacyTHINK Person of Influence (POI) format, we will complete a deeper dive into each featured Biblical character while comparing and contrasting their life, decisions, leadership, discipline, growth, failures, and legacy alongside the teachings found throughout Proverbs.
As the study continues, we will also explore the people connected to that individual, including parents, grandparents, mentors, children, successors, and the long-term impact of their decisions over time. Together, these studies help us better understand wisdom, influence, resilience, consistency, leadership, generational outcomes, and how our choices can affect those around us throughout life.
Follow the reading schedule below alongside your daily Proverbs reading based on the calendar date. Additional notes, observations, and reflections can be tracked using the downloadable W.O.W. worksheet provided for this month’s study.
This month, we’ll take a deeper look at the life of Solomon, one of the most influential and complex leaders in history.
Solomon was the son of David and Bathsheba. His path to leadership was not easy. Before becoming king, there was conflict within his own family, and his brother Adonijah attempted to take the throne for himself. Solomon’s future as king was nearly lost before it ever began.
Yet Solomon would go on to become known as the wisest man to ever live. When given the opportunity to ask God for anything, Solomon asked for wisdom to lead people well. Because of this, he became known around the world for discernment, leadership, wealth, construction, and knowledge.
Solomon is traditionally connected to several books of the Bible, including Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. His writings explored wisdom, discipline, relationships, work, purpose, wealth, and the meaning of life.
But Solomon’s story is also a warning. In his later years, many of his choices slowly turned his heart away from God. Despite his wisdom, success, and accomplishments, he allowed outside influences and personal decisions to lead him astray.
Throughout this month, we’ll explore Solomon’s life from birth to death while comparing his journey, decisions, victories, and failures alongside our daily readings through Proverbs.
